Default U.S. Army Ranger killed in action

    RELEASE NUMBER: 100720-04
    DATE POSTED: JULY 20, 2010

U.S. Army Special Operations Command Public Affairs

    Sgt. Justin Bradley Allen

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, July 20, 2010)—A U.S. Army Ranger was killed in a fire fight with enemy forces while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The Ranger was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

Sgt. Justin Bradley Allen, 23, a native of Coal Grove, Ohio, was killed in Kandahar Province, by enemy forces on July 18. Sgt. Allen was leading his team in an assault on an enemy position when he was mortally wounded by enemy small arms fire.

Allen enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 2006. For almost four years, he served as a grenadier, automatic rifleman and most recently as a team leader in 1st Bn., 75th Rgr. Regt.

“Sgt. Allen was an absolute warrior who was admired and respected by everyone,” said Lt. Col. Michael Foster, 1st Bn. commander. “He was a man of immense talent and capabilities, and a bedrock of Delta Company. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Allen family.”

Allen was on his second deployment to Afghanistan with two previous deployments to Iraq.

“Sgt. Allen epitomized the Ranger Fire Team Leader - skilled Warrior, always led from the front, and cared fiercely for his men,” said Col. Michael E. Kurilla, commander of the 75th Rgr. Regt. “He is a hero to our Nation, the 75th Ranger Regiment, and to his family.”

Allen is survived by his parents Roger and Bonnie Sue Allen of Coal Grove, Ohio.

There are so many but these are the recent KIAs. My point is that all soldiers/servicemen lost in these wars are equal and all deserve respect and recognition. Ranger is no different than a regular soldier when killed nor is that special enough to garner extra attention. Get my point? Maybe I am taking the posting of this new thread wrong but why didn't someone create a new thread for the 8 that were killed recently? I see daily Fort Campbell and some USAREUR soldiers names in the papers.

I think it says something about the Ranger brotherhood that they feel the loss of one of their own so keenly. The 'big Army' is so large that we seldom know those killed - nor do we identify closely with them. I'll ask your question back to you - why didn't someone create a new thread for the 8 that were killed recently? Because no one here knew them as individuals, or called them 'brother' - even you, who proudly proclaim yourself "A REAL SCREAMING EAGLE" didn't feel the need to memorialize the Soldiers from Ft. Campbell lost last week... Why is that, do you suppose?

I have posted in various threads of soldiers from Fort Campbell that have passed (in other forums or off-topic threads or anything other topic related to a Fort Campbell soldier). Do a search and you shall see. But am I always going to post when someone has died? No. Do I identify with the losses? Yes and every time I see those names on AFN played with TAPs, it touches me. Does it with you?

Has nothing to do with being "A Real Screaming Eagle". If that is the case, I should post every KIA that I can identify with (Marine, Combat Engineer, Military Policeman or Signaleer that has been killed in these wars). And to attached to all the units that I served will even increase that list that I feel so bonded to.

Did I answer your question? Since you are deliberately trying to personally attack me with your post.

And for anyone who wants to know "A Real Screaming Eagle" means that the combat patch I wear is because I was with the 101st, served with them and was with units that wear the Screaming Eagle Patch; not the wannabees who were never stationed at Fort Campbell or say they were at Fort Campbell giving the impression that they were stationed there but on TDY. (I know there are other units without the Screaming Eagle patch at Fort Campbell). I despise like many of the soldiers of the 82nd and others of soldiers who wear their combat patches and never was with their unit. Thank goodness for the recent reg changes. Its weird seeing a 101st patch or 82nd and the soldier doesnt wear wings because he never was stationed there. Soldiers who are 101st and 82nd have a very unique pride. I run into soldiers daily who see my patch and since they were there too; bring up conversations about the unit based on strong pride. Just like a 75th soldier would. I never got that same pride in the Guard (e.g. where you with the 208th Admin unit in the (insert state here) guard? wow!! - now an admin unit within the 101st is a totally different animal)

Personally, I wouldnt wear a combat patch of a unit that I never went to combat with regardless if they were my higher and I rated it. But that is just my thinking.

Now the thread is going completely off-topic of what it was intended to do.

No, Sir - not an attack, just an observation. A Ranger felt the need to memorialize a fellow Ranger - and you spoke up asking why others did not do so for other Soldiers. I pointed out that the answer to your question was the same reason why you had not done so either. Absolutely no slight attended.
