DANNER TFX are my favorite so far. They feel like tennis shoes and require literally zero breaking in. Everyone's feet are different I guess but man I love them.

I like Danners too. I have several pair of civilian Danner patrol boots for my foot patrols as a Security Officer. Before I retired from the Army I liked Corcoran jump boots. I'm not even sure they make the desert type. The ones I wore were black & took a real nice shine with little effort & they were supposed to be good for parachuting but it really didn't make too much difference. Ankle support was not all that necessary.

At ths time just go with the issue boots. Get them broken in & they'll be just fine. That way you won't have the possibility of having issues with the 1SG by wearing non-regulation boots.

well if its the Tan boots you are asking about, I wear the OAKLEY boots and they feel like sneakers. I get a government discount at US Standard Issue. Here is the link.

I am going to buy me some Altimas when I re-deploy. The ripple sole is always good on long ruck marches.

Ah I didn't notice he was a future soldier. Might as well save your money for now because you will get issued 2 pairs at basic and you will be do plenty of walking around in them to break them in before you start rucking. They will take any high speed pair you bring and lock em up.

What's "high speed" in the context of boots? does that just mean any pair that is not issued to you?

haha that's the first time i've heard that term before nd this may sound like a silly question but... is it true that they stick a q-tip swab down your urethra to check for stds at army reception/bct?

rgbjr, totally false. If you do go to the DOC about an STD then expect the q-tip swab.

I might be wrong but I think a blood test will suffice to check for STDs.

Are you worried? I don't think a pair of non-regulation high-speed boots will help you there.

High-speed = anything that is out of the ordinary run-of-the mill soldiering- ie: SF, Rangers, Air Assault, Paratroops, etc. Can also be referred to as high-speed, low drag.
