    Default MEPS drug test-FAILED

I stopped smoking weed, for over a month and joined the army. I took a test at the recruiters office and it came up negative..the next day at meps-positive for marijuana. I have heard i can re-enlist in 6 months, i have heard i can never re-enlist. I recieved a paper from the DoD in the mail today saying i can possibly continue with military processing after 45 days. so what is it? Permanent DQ? 6 months? 45 days? anyone know? thank you.

The facts are this- you can have two prior DWI's before enlisting.

You pop hot and you're done..

Wavier's are so hard to come by these days. Maybe down the road when things change as they always do you might be able to do something but I doubt it.

    Drugs are anti HLS..

Yeah, I know. It's because you're not a Soldier yet! You sir, fall into the first 180 day rule. After that time, you're uncle sam's and the Army's problem. You have to wait to re-apply to enlist which means you might fall into a paper work pile that gets lost. We have a in- house recruiter who could explain it better then me. But, it is what it is. The recruiters are having a cracker jack year and are very busy with other recruits. All you could do is try again. But seriously dude, what we're you thinking?

what do you mean, what was i thinking?! MY RECRUITERS (a whole room of them) looked at my NEGATIVE drug test the day before MEPS. i went, and failed. so you say i might still be able to go back and test again?

Edit: Thank you for your help and input. it is appreciated.

You smoked pot a few weeks before enlisting is what I mean.

Let me ask you this, what does you're recruiter tell you? start over and keep the pedal down and hope for the best.
Wait for MP to come on. He can give it to you cleaner then I can. The Army deals with Soldier's and their drug problem to a point. You're not a Soldier so they don't have to do anything. Understand? If you run into a speed bump trying to get back in you might want to try the Army Guard then after a few years go Active. Straight up..

    Good Luck

recruiter told me AT FIRST that i was DQ permanently... but i got off of the phone with him just a little bit ago after opening this letter, im going in to the recruiters office on Wednesday and bringing the letter to see what we can do and if we can fight it. he and the other recruiters at the station are fighting their hardest for me because they know of my living situation and wanting me to join or should i say the NEED to join. what is most confusing to me is this-why would they send me this letter if i could not join at all and if i WAS dq'd permanently? this letter adressed to me and dated on the thirtieth of aug. what im thinkin is we can get me back in BECAUSE they sent me this letter. and if im supposed to be DQ... its their mistake they sent it to me? i mean damnit they sent this to me! why would they send it if they werent going to fulfill it? im definitely going to fight for this.

P.S. if i was perma DQ... does that mean from every branch of the military altogether?

You don't have criminal history of drug use. That's a good thing. And you're honest and that's a good thing too.

    Give it you're best shot.

Moral of the story - don't smoke marijuana. And realize that if you smoke it for a long time it builds up in the fat cells of your body - and you can show up positive weeks after quitting, as that fat breaks down and releases those chemicals. Also, realize that the test administered at MEPS (and in the Active Army) is the GC/MS - Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometry test, which is the most sensitive testing methodology currently used. I'm guessing you did a urine dipstick test for your recruiters - which test is not nearly as sensitive as the GC/MS. I have no idea if you'll be given a second chance. I wish you luck.
