    Default Howdy!

Just found this site after army.com "disappeared".
I'm a proud Army Mom of an 18 year old who enlisted at age 17 with an 11X Option 40 contract. He completed OSUT in November, Airborne in December and is currently in RASP Hold. He passed the PT test two weeks ago and was to leave for RASP 2/4 but the leave date got pushed back to 2/11. Good thing because he ended up with some kind of lung infection and is waiting for test results to be cleared for pick-up. Not sure what will happen if he isn't cleared? Will they drop him or will he continue in hold for the next class?
Glad to see some familiar names and looking forward to hearing about others' experiences.

    Best of luck to all!

Hey Frosty- I had something similar, I think, two years ago. It was nasty stuff. I think they called it an upper chest infection. The flu of sorts. Anyways, after being down for two weeks, I was up and running again like a jack rabbit on a date. It sucked, tho.Good luck to you're Soldier, He needs to get healthy before he gets to do anything else. It'll work out. Let us know how he's doing.

Don't forget to keep me updated on your son's RASP experience, Frostee. The last one who I helped with an Option 40 went through RIP, one of the last classes. Is it true that only 18 students who passed the APFT with a score of 80% are allowed to continue? I know they're trying to wash more out, at least until the 75th needs more Rangers.

The only difference I see is it's twice as long & the Ranger hopefuls will get some training after the 3-4 week "RIP" phase. That's a good idea as it stands because when my son went through RIP the whole course was designed to test the individual to see if he was Ranger material. Then it became the job of his Team Leader, Squad Leader & Platoon SGT to train him so he was up to speed for his first deployment.

I also think thast the extended course just gives the RASP instructors the opportunity to trim the herd some more.

I hope he feels better by the time class starts.

    Default RASP Info

I'm getting my info from my son and other forums (goarmyparents.com and armyrangers.com). The first class started 1/11 and is now into the second part of the class with a grad date of 3/5. Seems everyone is waiting to see how the RASP grads compare to the RIP grads.
Haven't heard actual numbers, but reportedly A LOT of guys have dropped. Same for guys in hold. there were about 75 guys in hold when they came back from Exodus but at one point there were less than 40. Another group from Airborne just came in and they are back up to 55- 60. My son is still getting offers of an Airborne assignment if he drops his Option 40 (weekly offers starting the 10th week of OSUT; started with Italy, then the 82nd and now Alaska). He mentioned that if they offered him Warrant Officer School with the opportunity to fly helos he would take them up on it???? Maybe he was delirious from fever?
As for new pt requirements, yes, it is at 80% and although he was worried about meeting the top 18%, that didn't happen.
I'll keep you posted; just waiting to hear if he was cleared for pickup.

    .
Highly unlikely. You apply for that (have to take additional tests (AFAST) and physicals), get boarded to compete with hundreds of other applicants and hope to get ascended.

He could apply for WOFT when he hits his first assignment.

    Default Woft???

Maybe that is what he meant; what is that exactly? I know he mentioned flying helos. He wasn't making much sense; had a high fever, heavy PT day and his best new buddy had just dropped to go airborne in Alaska.
Is WOFT something he could do from Rangers? From Airborne?

This is all new to me! We are a Navy family; the kid went rogue by going green. :-)

    Thanks for any help.

The online application link has been posted on here before. I re-post it. Wait to he gets to his unit. He would need letters of recommendations from his commanders and a senior flight warrant officer.

Default No RASP for my son

My son texted me that he did not make medical clearance for Thursday's pick-up.

His next message stated that 32 guys who had dropped (from both from hold and the current RASP class) left for the airborne unit in Alaska yesterday.

Don't know what's coming next; more waiting and worrying.

    Thanks for listening!
