    My son used the "plumber's delight" clothes pole cross member for his pull-ups when he was preparing for entry into the Army. The cheaper the better.

    I'm sure that the practice hasn't stopped but when I was involved in Recruit Training the Drills would have each recruit do as many pull-ups as they could before they were allowed to enter the messhall. For those of you going to Airborne School they're included in the test given on the first day.

    pull ups are the new pushup make sure you can do both very well with good form.

    What ever works for you. I like to use the machine at the gym so I can go with several different grips.
