Thumbs up My Tampa MEPS Experience

Just got back at 1500. Here's how my visit went for future recruits looking for info...

    Monday
    -Arrived at Hotel at 1830.
-Dinner, video games (PS3, PS2), Interpipe browsing, basketball, volleyball, pool, weight room.
    -Lights out at 2300.
-Hotel was nice. You will have a dinner ticket and a breakfast ticket. Any other food you want, you have to buy.

    Tuesday
-Wake-up call at 0445 (Don't expect one, get yourself up. They wont wait for you.)
-Pack bags, shower and get to reception hall by 0515.
    -Breakfast at 0530.
-Bus was supposed to leave at 0605. Ours left at 0603. Don't be late, don't be "that guy".
    -0630 arrived at Tampa MEPS
-0630-0700 Meet with your Service's Liaison, store your bags, get fingerprinted and take your picture, smile.
-0700-0720 you will be directed to your respective department, I went to do the Full Physical.
-0720 Blood pressure and pulse was taken. DON'T DRINK ANY COFFEE OR RED BULL IN THE MORNING. YOU COULD FAIL THIS TEST AND BE SENT HOME.
-0745-0830 Medical Briefing. DON'T FALL ASLEEP, YOU WILL BE SENT HOME. ONE UNLUCKY PERSON WAS TODAY...
-0830-0845 Alcohol Test. Don't be an idiot. Don't drink the night before you go to MEPS.
-0845-1230 You will do your physical. 5 sections...blood drawn, physical with the doc (aka duck walk) (wear boxer briefs (men)), hearing, eyesight, pee test (drugs).
-1230-1700 Sit on your butt until the shuttle gets their to take you home*

    WORD TO THE WISE:
If you have the chance, request to drive to MEPS yourself. It's a little more work for you, but you can leave at 1230 while everyone else has to stay til 1700. I drove and it was probably the best decision I have made up to this point of the process.

Remember, it is "Yes, sir" "No, sir" or "Yes, Ma'am" "No, M'am" all day long. It will help your processing go smoother. Respect garner's respect.

    OTHER NOTES:
MEPS IS NOT THAT BAD. In fact, its kind of nice to see all the other recruits and to see the different paths people are taking for their respective careers.

MEPS is essentially extremely organized chaos. Get used to it, you're going into the military.

    Any questions?

I went through the Tampa MEPS too. It wasn't too bad except that after my physical (which was done by 11am) the computers went down. We had to sit there till 5pm and since nobody got to process, they said we could either go back to the hotel for another night or go home and come back another time. I figured I already went through that today, I'll just stay another night. The hotel was nice, the food was good, and there's a nice gym to use too. I just felt bad for the people that were suppose to ship that day and couldn't because of the computer. But yes, if you can drive yourself...DO IT!

Hey Night, I haven't joined yet. lol.

I just did my full physical. I'm waiting on my medical waiver right now...(approx. 3 weeks) then its back to MEPS for a security clearance and finally again to get reviewed by the board for my OCS trip. Hell, I'm just gettin started.

So, driving to MEPS was my best decision up until now. As soon as I put my Hancock on the dotted line, then that will become the best decision of my life.
