Default I can't join because of a GED? UNJUST!

So I went into a recruitment here in Colorado Springs, Colorado with my brother, trying to do the "Buddy System". Army Reserves, that is. The guy assumed we had High School Diplomas. We corrected him that we had GEDs. He said that we can't join unless we have 15credit hours of college, 1 heavy semester. I just think it's really stupid personally.
    1) I feel discriminated against. So gay people can join the army now and butt plug other gay guys? But I can't join the army because I have a GED?

    2) A GED aka general EQUIVALENT diploma obviously isn't EQUIVALENT or rather equal if I have to do extra shit just to join the army. It would be different if everyone had to have college credits, but no; only GED people. I honestly feel like I'm smarter than the guy I talked to. I mean, there are many people who graduated with nothing but d's and c's and barely passed high school.

    3) I got my GED in the 11th grade. So I passed without taking GED courses or reviewing any of the work with flying colors. I still know Geometry and Algebra. But there are people who missed out a lot on school, if not years. I think its more admirable that THEY, themselves went back and took the time to study, and passed for it would show they are willing to learn.

    4) If I'm going to go to college, then I'm probably just going to pursue with the degree and make money when I've graduated and NOT join the army. Not to even mention, the rational thinking in that. If I'm smart enough to be accepted into college, I'm not smart enough join the ARMY? How stupid!

    5) I am in perfect health. I have no allergies, no handicaps, nothing wrong with me. I am in no trouble with the law

    The overall summary is:

I am 19 years old, wanting to serve my country. My grandfather is a WWII veteran, still alive. My uncle who recently died, was a lieutenant-colonel in the Navy. I need discipline. I feel like I have nothing going for me. I am the most miserable kid in this god-forsaken state. I'd kill myself right now if I didn't think hell existed. I need boot camp in my life right now. I want boot camp to change me and mold me. I'm tired of my distorted thinking. I need purpous. I just want to make something of myself, but I'm being held back by a stupid regulation of discrimination. General Equivalent Diploma should be changed to GEBCBUAD- General Equivalent But Can't Be Used Anywhere Diploma. To me, you might as well tell people they can't join the army for being black. I'm a human being damn it. MY LIFE HAS VALUE.

Super LOLz - this is the ARMY, friend. The mission is to fight and win the nations wars, and your idea of 'justice' has NOTHING to do with it. The policy says you can join just fine with your GED - you just have to do one semester of College first. Either decide you want to join and do the work, or go be a civilian. Either way, I wish you luck!

I don't know if this is the technical reason for not accepting GEDs, but most people who have a GED dropped out of high school. The Army wants to make sure people with GEDs have the drive to continue what they start, so they make them have 15 college credits to enlist. It shows that the person has matured and may have a better work ethic. These are the rules of the Army, if you don't like it, don't join. Just because you chose to get a GED early instead of finishing high school doesn't mean the Army should bend the rules for you. You haven't done anything after you got your GED as far as school goes, which is the main reason people usually leave high school early.
Go to your local community college, take 15 credits of 100 level classes, and join in 6 months. Otherwise go to college and get a civilian job. The choice is yours.

Probably a good thing you didn't get in, seeing as you would be disqualified at MEPS for being suicidal in the last 2 weeks of attending

Honestly the Army probably isn't for you if your going to trow your toys out your pram when you don't get your own way

The mission? Really? Do you even know why we're in this war? If not in war, what is the mission? I know these are the rules and that's just the way it is. But let's give reasoning as to why
people with GED's aren't allowed. They are losing so many new recruits because of this. How much can one learn in one semester? It's one semester. Even the guy at the recruitment center said "You can major in tennis. I don't care as long as you have the credits" So obviously education doesn't mean shit. That's really stupid. Honestly. I WILL go to school. Probably for engineering. I have interest in Combat Engineering. Regardless of what I study, I WILL join the army. And hopefully, raise in ranks. And if/when I do, I will bring this subject up again when my voice will actually matter.

TO SPRCOCK: Okay, i chose not to get my diploma. There are people who didn't choose. What about them? "Why you got your GED" isn't the problem though. It's "You have a GED"

I went in with a GED but that was quite some time ago. I even knew a few of those ..."Join the Army or go to jail" folks(yes they do exist). But times have changed. Our economy sucks, gas prices are rising, etc, etc... so the Army isn't hurting for people right now. That means that they can be as choosey as they like. As with any organization, you want the highest quality individuals working for you. Studies have shown that those with GEDs are less likely to complete their initial enlistment. That's why they always have certain criteria to be met before enlisting. For example, GED holders need to score higher on the asvab than HS grads, etc.

I applaud you for having the desire to serve. However, they aren't discriminating against you by requiring the college hours. They just want to be certain that you are serious about enlisting and that you will fulfill your oath honorably.

    Best regards.

Jack. I'm not suicidal, pal. It was just a metaphor to express how miserable I feel.

And you can blow me for all I care. Sorry that I'm not an idiot, when someone tells me something that THIS way is right, that I'm going to just believe them.
    Think for yourself.

I'm not trying to get MY way. I speak for all people with GEDs. People that want to excel at something. I think it's stupid and like I said above, It's one semester. What the fuck is that going to do? I guess the percent in how much they use their brains will go up by 10% if they go ONE semester.

Firstly, That isn't how you address a Sergeant. Nor is it the tone of voice you use with a 25 year Army veteran.

2nd, You just said you wanted to kill yourself...but your not suicidal - Are you sure you know what the meaning of suicidal is? Are you sure your not an idiot?

I think your delusional personally, you came here saying you've been discriminated against because you can't join the Army...You are currently UNQUALIFIED to enlist, try getting a job as a lawyer without taking the state BAR and they will tell you the same thing...

First off, I don't give a **** man. **** you dude. I'm a civilian. I haven't been to the Army yet, so once again, **** me.

Secondly, if you're going to say "Are you sure YOUR not an idiot" in the same sentence. Make sure you use correct grammar.

Third, Are you sure I said I wanted to kill myself? Is that what you read? Because if so, you sir, are the idiot. I clearly remember saying "I'd kill myself if I didn't think hell existed," I believe that hell exists, therefor I do not want to kill myself.

Okay, let's take the word "discriminate" out of the picture....
