    Default waiver= no option 4?

Well some of you guys know that last week i finally got my contract for 19D and i asked the counselor if i could also get the Option 4 in it. And he told me i couldnt get it because i had gotten a waiver and that you cant get any of the options at meps if you needed a waiver..So is this true? Or can i get it while at OSUT? Or will i never be able to go Airborne?

Indeed it's true, my first MOS of choice was 25B with option 4 and my recruiter reserved it for me. Unfortunately when I went to MEPS the counselor said I could not get Airborne in my contract because of the hearing waiver I received. So I went with intel which is quite the specialty. There's nothing stopping me me from putting in a request packet for Airborne now that I'm in AIT, however. And there is a good chance I'll get it since IET soldiers are the priority for jump school. So don't get discouraged if you can't get it right now, you'll have plenty of opportunities it get it in the future.

Ah Thanks, is it true that any MOS that trains at Fort Benning has a better chance at going airborne since the Airborne school's in Fort Benning?

Depends - the only "AIT" that's here is OSUT - One Station Unit Training. It's combined BCT and AIT for Infantry.

What could be a problem with trying to get Airborne School out of any OSUT or AIT is the MOS needs of the Airborne community. If the Airborne School Recruiters need Infantrymen they'll stop at 11X OSUT first. Now that Cav Scout OSUT is at Benning it's anyone's guess. If they're just looking for students to fill out their class then it could be both as well as any of the technical MOS schools. Sometimes it's easier getting an Airborne slot in non-combat arms MOSs because those MOSs always try to get Option 4s in their contract, moreso than the technical MOSs. It could go either way. When my son went through Infantry OSUT in spring of '04 everyone that volunteered for Airborne School & didn't already have an Option 4, 18X or Option 40 contract was selected. About half of his graduating class was bussed across post to Airborne School.

To be sure you're selected & there are more volunteers than slots then you have be just that much of a better recruit than the others. That & a high APFT score will get your Drill Sgt's recommendation.
