Postive thoughts Doc... I like it...

Fully agree on the pragmatic and duplicitous approach of ME politicans.. the radical nature of the dynamics really makes them the mother of spin doctors in how they manage diametrically opposite relationship and keep their rep intact... Understanding the choas is key... if us westerners can truely understand the whole package, then we can get some proper planning to mitigating the substantial risks the unstable region presents to every one of us...

well the pragmatic men have been kicked down in every turn. there is no heaven or hell for thease men.. only what they can gather.
    frankly.. its not that simple..

my point of view is that Israel should stop the on going siesing of land as "colonies"... and the Extrimist factions could perhaps put on order by the common opinion of the public (forced by the military).
then the peace necotiations would go on.
complex knot for sure. but as we have seen. its not solvable by giving the leverage for another.
I still beleave this is possible to dampen down..
but its not easy to get consensus when there are incedents which fuel the flame.

The cycle of negative action and reaction you talk of Torps is one of the most difficult cycles to break... When the administration is driving the cycle, there are very few options..... good man can stand as the students did in Tehran and they were cut down... the infrastructure of power supports extremism... and thats a huge issue...

"For a military man to yield, you more often need a bigger sword, than a longer lasting pencil"

(both might be needed to be exact)

A feel dictates this human tragedy as it has many other wars between men.

I'm inclined to agree and I don't find the future as depressing as many have predicted. The leaders want to stay in charge. They don't want to destroy the world, but they'll use that threat to get what they want. If Iran can get things like economic aid and technology out of the US or UN with the threat of nuclear waeapons they will. There is actually a good book I'm reading on this called Predictioneer's Game by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and he talked about this specifically on the Daily Show

I agree with your sentiment Torps... its accurate in my opinion and a poor reflection on the egotistical lust for power these guys have... it really is!!...

Send the QP's in there and take em out. That'll keep em honest..
The base is so large it has its own 'neighborhoods'. These include: 'KBR-land' (a Halliburton subsidiary company); 'CJSOTF' which is home to ' the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force' and is surrounded by especially high walls that is, according to The Washington Post, so secretive that even the base Army public affairs chief has never been inside.

the leaders in iran (ahmadinajin((sp?))) included are not stupid and even if they do have nuclear weapons (which i'm of the opinion they don't yet but they are close) they won't be dumb enough to try and flex their muscles with them and threaten the UN. there are too many powerful leaders on the council that would be all over them in a second if they tried to do something like that. what we would really have to worry about is them passing along that information to the black market and supplying these jihad extremists with them to take care of their dirty work. i also don't believe that any of these people (extreme zealots down to passive minority) would want anything to happen to their holy lands. the whole point of this war as well as the crusades is the claiming of what they believe to be rightfully theirs. if they were to cause damage to any of those pieces of history they would be disgracing all of their ancestors and everything that they fought for for centuries, hell even a millenia. like in many ancient religions and tribes the elders of islam are considered the wisest men among them and when they die they are revered as almost a saint so disgracing them and their memory is a big deal. what most people don't realize is that this war is FAR from over, it's been going on for a thousand years before us and just because we are involved doesn't mean it's going to end quickly, in fact it's going to be the opposite, because we are there they have more reason to fight. like someone posted above me, this is a win-win situation for them and that needs to scare the hell out of us. i'm not trying to be the one to bring this into a negative mood, just want to bring it back to perspective. we're in for a long fight here and quite frankly, pulling our troops out by august of next year is a terrible idea, we need to send more

Just read that the JCS has a complete battle plan to assault Iran if they make a move on Israel. With each passing day the Iranian leadership feels the public noose tightening around their throats. With the populace in active revolt, Iran is going to make a move it's going to be soon and brutal.
