    Default Basic Combat Training article

I am a member of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) and its magazine had a very interesting article of BCT at Fort Jackson.

You can view the article on page 46 in the online edition (same as the magazine)

Its the magazine that has training for war. Awesome photo of females going at it during pugil stick fighting. I did pugil stick in the Marines but never in the Army so its good to see that.

There is a video at the bottom of page 49 that says DIGITAL EXCLUSIVE - Click on it and hear the Army Chief of Staff.

It also has an article on Operation Proper Exit that nearly brought tears to my eyes.

That was an excellent article. It looks like LTG Hertling is addressing some of my complaints with BCT, especially the one about Power Point. When I went through we did a day of pugils instead of bayonets, Fort Jackson had already closed down the bayonet course. Pugils were fun, but they did not really teach much about them. We spent maybe 4 hours on combatives. The idea of giving everyone an e-reader while they are in BCT is ridiculous. The smart book they issue now is the same exact thing, but a fraction of the cost. Those e-readers will get destroyed.

I never knew my generation was called millennials, lol.

Yeah, I caught the news last week. Chief- LT is going through growing pains.lol. It's all good.
The base is so large it has its own 'neighborhoods'. These include: 'KBR-land' (a Halliburton subsidiary company); 'CJSOTF' which is home to ' the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force' and is surrounded by especially high walls that is, according to The Washington Post, so secretive that even the base Army public affairs chief has never been inside.

If they actual implement, we should start a pool to see how long before they go back to paper. Anyone who's seen a smartbook on week 10 will quickly realize why that idea doesn't pass the sniff test. Good idea, but IMO the execution will be cost prohibitive.
